New Ban on Cell Phones in the Middle Lands

A law banning personal cellphones will soon go into place in the the Middle Lands. The new law follows the ban on communication implants passed in that same region three years ago as well as the ban on AI configurations of all types.

Security and emergency personnel will be allowed to carry mobile communication devices specifically for work-related tasks only after receiving proper local permits and licensing. This regional regulation very clearly stipulates that security and emergency devices must be checked out and logged in at the beginning of shifts and then checked back in at the end of shifts. As with implanted communications devices, any violation of this ban or the provisons so defined will result in the installation of a consistency monitorring node for a minimum of 30 days upon first violation.

Travelers to the region via airports, e-bus terminals, train stations, and highway checkpoints are required to check in any handheld device they travel with and to submit to removal of implants. All restricted personal effects are placed in lockers for access and re-installation by travelers as they depart the Middle Lands. Officials note that anyone who ignores these requirements and attempts to hold on to personal equipment in secret will be subject to the 30-day monitoring requirement noted above.

Provisions are currently being established for permitting and special licensing in limited cases such as media reporters, private investigation personnel, and various security service categories.

Citizens throughout the Middle Lands have until December of this year to either register all communication devices with local law enforcement companies and groups or turn them in for a $500 rebate card. This is in keeping with provisions already in place for AI configurations of all kinds as well as implants.
